For Kids

To encourage means to comfort or strengthen someone. God wants to encourage us always, this is how God is. He is full of kindness and love, his words give us hope and strength and they make us want to obey him and follow him. This is how we need to be to the people around us. We need to be encourager's and give words of hope because people need it. The world around us is filled with selfishness and greed and it tears down and destroys a person's heart. We are salt and light in this world and God is calling us to be encourager's and to fill people with hope and to give them a love that is so great that they would hunger and thirst for it. Ask God today to make you salty, to make your words filled with encouragement and hope and love so much that people feel refreshed and excited to be around you because you're reflecting the God that is full of encouragement. Make a decision right now to be salt and light, to empty yourself of you and the world, and to fill yourself with the Holy Spirit and the love that sets people free.

Content

Did you know that contentment is a fruit of the spirit? To feel satisfied right now with what you have is a gift from God. You cannot earn it, you cannot strive for it, you must sow to the Spirit in order  to reap the fruit of the Spirit. Jesus said if you abide in the vine  you will bear much fruit. Contentment is something that God produces in you as you walk with him and seek after him. Ask God today to make you feel satisfied with what you have. Ask God for patience  because he promises that he will eventually give us the desires of our heart in due time. Ask God to help you remove all envy and coveting, and to love those who have nicer things than we do, and remember the words of Jesus, that never once did a man's life consist of his possessions. Paul said that living your life for God and having contentment is great gain.

1 Timothy 6:6 - But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Covet

To "covet" something means to desire something that somebody else has. This is a common feeling yet the Lord warns us that it will bring us to ruin. Thankfully God sent his Holy Spirit to transform our hearts so that we become content with what we have. God also wants us to be happy for others who have nicer things. Remember love is the answer. Ask the Lord today to help you to love people more, and to be content with what you have and thankful at all times, and remember that Jesus had nowhere to lay his head.

Luke 12:15 - And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Death

The Bible says that "death" will come to every man because all have sinned. But what is amazing is that Jesus never sinned and therefore by dying as a man he conquered death. Jesus said that anyone who believes in him will never die. The resurrection from the dead is the hope of the Christian. The Bible says that there is a heavenly body awaiting us, a resurrected glorified body that will live forever. Ask God today to increase your faith in the resurrection, and that you too will conquer death because of your faith in Jesus Christ. Are you looking forward to your new body that is prepared for eternity. Do you believe that Jesus went to prepare a place for you? This was the promise of Jesus.

Hebrews 2:14 - Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.

Devil

The "Devil" means the slanderer or false accuser. The nature of the devil is to slander you before God, and also to slander God in your mind. This is why we need the Bible as our sword to defend ourselves against his attacks. Did you know that the Bible says that the Devil has already been defeated on the cross? He is like a roaring lion with no teeth or claws. Ask God today to give you strength to use your sword, the word of God, and resist the Devil's lies. You have nothing to fear because the Devil has been defeated, but he does not want you to know that. If God is for you who can be against you.

1 Peter 5:8 - Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.

Disciple

A "disciple" of Jesus is anyone who has made a commitment to follow him and his teachings. The most important thing about being a disciple is to be like his teacher, to follow him and observe his ways, and to obey what he says. Jesus said that he came not to be served but to serve, he came to be a servant in every way, to be humble and to put every person's needs above his own. Ask God today to help you be a servant, to help you put others first in every way. Are you making time for people around you? Jesus was the greatest yet he humbled himself and treated others as more important than himself, and made it his mission to serve others. A disciple of Jesus is someone who wants to be like his master in all his ways.

Luke 6:40 - The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.

Edify

The word "edify" means to build up, and for Christians it is always done with love. Everything that we say or do when we are around other believers can make an impact in their lives for the better. Remember the words of Paul that God has given us spiritual gifts for equipping and building up other believers. Ask God today to fill your heart with  his love toward other believers. Make your words, words of wisdom, comfort and encouragement, and seek Gods gifts to bless others. Always look for opportunity to build someone up in love. Thank the Lord that we are all part of one body of believers with Christ as the head and the Holy Spirit leading and guiding us. Take to heart the words of Jesus that the world will know that we are his disciples because of our love for one another.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 - Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Envy

The word "envy" is a feeling of anger and frustration when somebody else has something we wish we had. It is different than coveting which is wanting what someone else has. Envy focuses on a person rather than a thing, and it takes pleasure in that person's misfortune. The Bible identifies envy as a fruit of the flesh and a byproduct of a relationship with this world. Jesus promised that he would transform our hearts and change us from the inside out. Ask God today to show you where you might be envying somebody for some possession or anything else that is making them happy.  Seek the Lord and let his love fill you, and say these words "less of me and more of him."

Proverbs 23:17 - Let not thine heart envy sinners: but [be thou] in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

Eternal Life

The Word of God gives encouragement to you to hang onto Jesus and do not let go. There is nothing more important than the eternal life that Jesus promised. Eternal life is more than living forever, it is an undying relationship with the living God, our maker, our husband, the one who gave us life. He promises it will never end and that we will be fulfilled and in his presence forever. There is no happiness that compares, no worldly pleasure that compares. God is our maker and he wants to love us for eternity. Ask God today to help you lay hold of eternal life, to long for the relationship with the living God that will never end. This is your inheritance my friend and be thankful for nothing can take it away from you.

John 17:3 This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.

Faith

Did you know that faith is acting upon your belief in God? That is correct we cannot see God but we believe, his promises are more real than anything we can touch or see. This has always been God's way, and this is how he saves mankind. Throughout the Bible there were heroes of faith like Abel, and Noah, and Abraham, and many more. These men were heroes because they believed in the unseen promises of God. Faith is God's gift to you my friend. Ask God today to increase your faith, do not sit idle but act right now upon God's promises. Take advantage of the opportunity that is in front of you and don't look back.

Romans 10:17 - So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Fear

Fear is a terrifying thing and we can feel it in the bottom of our stomach, especially when things around us are dark and scary and we are alone. Most of the time this feeling in the bottom of our stomach comes when we are afraid for our lives. We feel scared or frightened because something can take away our life. Remember this:THE PROMISES OF GOD ARE BIGGER than anything that can harm us. That is why Jesus said not to be afraid of anything that can kill the body but instead fear him who has the power to cast your soul into hell. Dear friend ask God today to give you the kind of love that will cast out all fear. God is much bigger than any circumstances and it is only by fearing God (acknowledging God's greatness) and drawing closer to him that we will overcome fear.

Luke 6:40 - I tell you, my friends, don't be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will warn you whom you should fear. Fear him, who after he has killed, has power to cast into Gehenna.Yes, I tell you, fear him.

Fellowship

Fellowship is simply being in a relationship with someone, being one with someone, sharing with someone, working together, walking together, loving each other and having all things in common. When you fellowship with other believers you are identifying with them completely. When you fellowship with God  you are identifying with him completely. You cannot be in a relationship with someone who hates you, that is why we cannot fellowship with the world or with the devil because we are becoming one with whoever we are fellowshipping with. Ask God today to open up your eyes more about what it means to be part of the body of Christ. To work together and to have all things in common with other believers. To fellowship with Jesus Christ and to know what it means to identify with his sufferings. Jesus said that if they hated me they will hate you also because no servant is greater than his master. Paul said that anyone who desires to live godly in Christ will be persecuted. May we rejoice right now because we have fellowship together with God.

1 John 1:7 - But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin

Forgive

Forgive means to let go and not hang onto something any longer. Today is a day of opportunity to forgive someone.  Jesus continually taught that we need to be people who continually love and forgive. We need to remind ourselves that God has forgiven us so great a debt, and we should return that same kind of love to everyone, and do the most we can to show them that we completely love them and have nothing holding us back. Ask God today to give you a heart that easily embraces, that loves to go to people and bring peace and restoration and love. Does someone bother you? Remember you are God's servant and representitive. Ask God to help you right now make the best use of your words and your actions when you see or associate with sinful people. Your words and your actions are an opportunity to bring people close to Jesus their healer and friend.

Ephesians 4:32 - And be kind to one another, tender hearted, and forgive each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness of sins is when God removes the penalty and punishment of sin and restores us into a perfect relationship of love and fellowship. There is nothing greater than being free to enjoy God's presence, and spend time with him and to love him and to have him love us. Did you know that forgiveness is the promise of Jesus? Ask God today to remove any feeling of guilt or any feeling of doubt about his great forgiveness. Jesus bore every bit of sin for us and the debt has been completely canceled and the penalty and punishment of sin has been removed completely. Enjoy knowing you are forgiven and enjoy being totally in love with Jesus.

Ephesians 1:7 - In Jesus we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace
